Free online courses for Afghan girls

Each round runs for roughly three months. Students apply, sign a short learning agreement, and are placed into a class matched to their level. Every class pairs a volunteer teacher with an AYLA moderator who takes attendance, shares materials, records one lecture a month and keeps the group connected between sessions.

Classes are delivered over Google Meet so a student can attend from a phone at home. Where connectivity is the barrier rather than permission, sponsors fund monthly internet packages so that attendance does not depend on a family's ability to pay for data.

Every teacher in the programme is a volunteer. Some are Afghan professionals in the diaspora, some are teachers who stayed, and some are international educators who found AYLA and offered their evenings. Moderators are drawn from AYLA's own alumnae, which means a student's first point of contact is usually someone who sat in the same class a round earlier.
